Nutr-lab

The facility

NutriLab supports research activities in UniTo in the field of Food and Human Nutrition.

The laboratory performs precise anthropometric evaluations using validated tools and methods, measurement of energy expenditure, screening and diagnostic tests of nutritional status, and collection and analysis of nutritional data.

Furthermore, NutriLab provides support for the organization of studies/trials involving nutritional interventions, the acquisition of nutritional data or the development of innovative foods.

Moreover, NutriLab manages a digital platform for storing anthropometric and nutritional data for “control groups” and carries out “third mission” activities.

NutriLab facility is accessible only for personnel authorized and supervised by the Coordinator.  Access to the facility is allowed weekdays from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm to authorized personnel.

Equipment available at the laboratory:

  • Indirect calorimeter (Q-NGR, Cosmed): a tool for the determination of resting energy expenditure.
  • Bio-impedance meter (BIA 101 BIVA, Akern): a tool for quantitative and qualitative analysis of body composition.
  • Hand Grip (Jamar, Patterson Medical): for measuring grip strength.
  • Software for calculating nutritional intakes.
