In vivo functional studies with tracers infusion

Studi Funzionali In Vivo Con Infusione Di Traccianti

The facility

In vivo tracer studies (with stable isotope), allow exploring metabolic flexibility in response to a glucose (oral glucose tolerance test, OGTT) or a lipid (oral lipid tolerance test, OLTT) load. Metabolic fluxes analysis, such as endogenous glucose production, glucose clearance and adipose tissue lipolysis, represent the gold standard for the measurement of insulin resistance components (hepatic, muscle and adipose tissue insulin resistance). Insulin resistance is the most important mechanism involved in the progression of liver damage in subjects with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and is implicated in other metabolic conditions such as type 2 diabetes.

In vivo studies with tracer infusion are performed at the University Hospital Città della Salute e della Scienza (Corso Bramante 88) under day hospital regimen with the supervision of an expert medical and nursing staff.
